Lectures Programme

The Arts Society Isle of Man arrange an annual programme of lectures. Speakers from the Isle of Man, the UK and further afield present lectures covering a wide range of subjects including decorative arts, individual artists, art movements, music, architecture and history.

Owing to Coronavirus restrictions on travel, lectures by UK based lecturers will be delivered by Zoom until the Isle of Man Government permits unrestricted travel to and from the UK. The option to attend Zoom lectures at the Manx Museum lecture hall will be kept under review.

Members who wish to bring a guest at £10 per lecture, (students free) please .

TURNER vs CONSTABLE: THE GREAT BRITISH PAINT-OFF

Speaker: Nicloa Moorby

Nicola Moorby will tell us about Turner and Constable’s epic rivalry and their differences in background and temperament as well as their similarities, their battles and their shared triumphs.

Nicola will also give us an overview of the British art world in the 19th century.

Nicola Moorby is an independent art historian specialising in British art of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. She has published widely on J.M.W. Turner, and you may have seen her Arts Society Connected At Home May 2020 lecture on Turner and the £20 Note.
